I know tradition has it that on this morning I place cards Happy Anniversary cards on your breakfast tray. But things are somewhat mixed up. I substituted a gift & delivered it a few weeks ago.
Still this is the day, the day that marks 31 years of such happiness as comes to few men. I told you once that it was like an adolescent’s dream of what marriage should be like. That hasn’t changed.
You know I love the ranch but these last two days made it plain I only love it when you are there. Come to think of it that’s true of every place & every time. When you aren’t there I’m no place, just lost in time & space.
I more than love you, I’m not whole without you. You are life itself to me. When you are gone I’m waiting for you to return so I can start living again.
Happy Anniversary & thank you for 31 wonderful years.

Ronald Reagan the Hollywood Actor and US President (Maybe if I had been an American I would have felt inclined to have those two jobs listed the other way round 
) . I am not sure whether he is returning to his wife Nancy at the time of writing or flying somewhere else but obviously despite his heavy workload as President he still finds time to write to her on their anniversary and to buy a gift for her when he could not be there in person to give his traditional card.
I have only just finished publishing a letter from Winston Churchill (the British Prime Minister) who had to leave his wife because of workload he also found time to write a short love not to her. If these two people who had such a lot to cope with could write to their wives why are so many people not getting any love letters because of lack of time.
For the rest of us there is just no excuse big enough is there?

Clementine and Winston Churchill were married in September 1908. (He was later to become British Prime Minister both during and after World War II.) Although they were reputed to have had a long and close relationship she is known to have had at least one affair.
