Robert Burns Romantic Love Letter Number 1

Robert Burns
Robert Burns wrote a tremendous number of love letters to various women during his relatively short but very full life. I will be publishing more of them obviously as a Scot myself I love his language although I realise for many of you it will take some getting used to his style. However reading his love letters and romantic poems a few times will, I know, increase the inner affection you feel as you understand better what he is saying and why Robert Burns has become the Scottish National Poet.
Robert Burns had many affairs and one of the way he was able to keep up his track record was through his writing which appealed to the heart of the women to whom he wrote his love letters and romantic poetry. Do a search for his other love letters on this site just go to the search box on the top right hand site and enter his name to find them. Alternatively you will be able to find some of his love poems on my sister site http://LovePoemsCentral.com.
Dear Madam,
The passion of love has need to be productive of much delight; as where it takes thorough possession of the man, it almost unfits him for anything else.
The lover who is certain of an equal return of affection, is surely the happiest of men; but he who is a prey to the horrors of anxiety and dreaded disappointment, is a being whose situation is by no means enviable.
Of this, my present experience gives me much proof.
To me, amusement seems impertinent, and business intrusion, while you alone engross every faculty of my mind.
May I request you to drop me a line, to inform me when I may wait upon you?
For pity’s sake, do; and let me have it soon.
In the meantime allow me, in all the artless sincerity of truth, to assure you that I truly am,
my dearest Madam, your ardent lover, and devoted humble servant
As you will see Robert Burns is able to bring out some strong affections of love and romance in his apparently simple writing style. The letter is obviously written to someone who he is not yet having an affair — but is hoping to do so — he is at this stage asking her permission in a way that would have been common place in his day. It would have been very impolite to attempt to chat up a girl without first asking permission to so. I wonder how that would be regarded nowadays if you asked permission to do so.
He also has a method in his style
- He starts by talking about the strength of his feelings for her.
- How his thoughts for her constantly interrupts his work
- How happy he would be to with her returning his love
- How unhappy he would be if she did not do so (he understood psychology of women most do not like to hurt people who love them)
- He then asks for her to write back to him
- Then pleads the urgency with which he wants to hear from her
- Before reminding her of his passion and love for her
Whether this last point was true or not he has skilfully drafted the letter moving from a declaration of love to how happy she could make him putting urgency into the need for her to act NOW before repeating his undying love for her.
This very straight forward style actually brings out a number of points which the recipient would have felt rather than read.
You may not want to copy his style exactly (indeed I would go so far as not to start with dear madam but use her name) but you could take some other phrases from his love letters to use when you are writing to your sweetheart.
Alternatively see the specialist software that will enable you to write a unique romantic or sexy love letter very quickly by going to http://LoveLettersCentral.com/writesexyletters now in fact I would suggest the templates in there would be far more applicable to the style of today.
